Follow the Supply Chain Study Abroad Program
A hands-on global supply chain experience
The Transportation Club of Tacoma proudly sponsors the Follow the Supply Chain Study Abroad Program, an immersive educational experience that gives students a firsthand look at how global supply chains operate—from Washington state to Vietnam.
This multi-college program brings together students from seven Washington community colleges, including Tacoma Community College, Highline College, Wenatchee Valley College, North Seattle College, Lake Washington Institute of Technology, Columbia Basin College, and Shoreline Community College. The program is organized by the Center of Excellence for Global Trade and Supply Chain Management in partnership with these institutions.

Real-World Learning
Students experience global logistics in action—from classroom insights to international site visits in Vietnam.
How the Program Works
Students begin the program through a series of virtual learning sessions, where they explore global supply chain concepts and gain cultural and economic insights into Vietnam. These sessions feature speakers from industry as well as experts on Vietnam, including a former U.S. Ambassador to Vietnam.
Participants also take part in site visits across Washington state, touring companies and organizations to see supply chains in action and better understand how goods move locally and globally.
The Vietnam Experience
The program culminates in a study abroad trip to Vietnam, where students:
- Tour manufacturing facilities and ports
- Receive briefings from the U.S. Consulate
- Visit the main wholesale market in Ho Chi Minh City, where Washington-grown apples are distributed
- Engage with students at a Vietnamese university
- Experience the global supply chain through real-world interaction and cultural exchange
